Ajay, great post. I agree with most of it. But I can't help but relate some example salaries of fully remote companies before the pandemic - Buffer, Convertkit, Invision, to name a few.

The salaries at those companies were close if not equal to top paying companies in LA or SF. They can't offer the RSUs that Facebook or Amazon or Google can, but the average salaries are easily in the six figures, and they didn't need to be.

I imagine salaries at those remote companies remained high because of 2 things

1) the companies are profitable and can afford to pay their team well

2) the high pay is attached to equally high expectations of productivity, outcomes, and skillset.

What are your thoughts about those example companies - outliers or an early trend?
